Redding Bike Park

The Redding Bike Park has been advocated for so long and by so many groups, please don’t expect a clear picture of that here.  We do know that many passionate people have pushed for it to happen for just as many years.  We picked up that torch and continued to work with the City on issues such as location, design, maintenance, and liability.  With the creation of the Caldwell Junior Park, the City of Redding saw what a beneficial amenity a bike park is for the community, moving them to give the ok for a full scale bike park.

After securing a great location for the bike park in the heart of Redding next to the beautiful Sacramento river, we went to work on a concept plan that would best utilize the space and not only encourage bike skills progression but be a vibrant, comfortable and safe place to build community.  With the event area, we will be able to continue to hold fun events while raising funds for continued maintenance of the park.

In 2020, the City of Redding was awarded a Statewide Park Development grant amounting to $6.7 million for the revitalization of Caldwell Park.  $1.5 million of that has been allocated for the construction of the park.  Due to the nature of CA state laws, the park will need to be designed by a different company than the one who builds it.  The City is in the Process of lining up qualified companies to bid on both design and construction of the park.  We will work with both the designer and builder to ensure that the park meets our high standards.

While $1.5 million is a huge dollar amount, more than we would ever be able to raise, unfortunately due to the nature of public work projects, $1.5 million doesn’t go nearly as far as we had hoped.  For example, if using grant funds to pay for a professional builder, for a pump track the size that we want it would cost over $300,000 alone! We have set a goal of raising at least $200,000 as matching funds for the park.  Without as many restrictions, we will be able to maximize how far these funds go. This money will come from generous local individuals and families who want the best bike park possible, local companies that recognize the importance of having a vibrant active healthy community and from companies in the bike industry who invest millions each year to improve cycling infrastructure.   You can donate directly to the bike park through the active Gofundme campaign.  If you are part of a company or family that wishes to contribute a large amount and become a sponsor, feel free to contact us or you can download a sponsorship packet HERE!
